Meet our Chief Executive Officer and Owners

Mike Sangiacomo, President & CEO
A 26-year member of the Recology management team, Mike was recruited to be the Chief Financial Officer of Sunset Scavenger's parent company in 1983. Following a 1987 merger with Norcal Waste Systems, Inc., he assumed the same role for the combined organizations until his election as President & Chief Executive Officer in 1991.
Recology is the largest employee-owned company in the solid waste industry, providing waste management services to more than 570,000 residential and 55,000 commercial customers.
Recology is parent to two dozen subsidiaries providing solid waste services to more than 50 communities and the exclusive service provider in San Francisco. Recology provides the highest level of service in the industry -- a commitment born when the company was established in 1921.
Reflecting both his individual interests and his belief in good corporate citizenship, Mike has served on the boards of many of Northern California's most effective community organizations, including the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and the San Francisco 49ers Foundation. Other board service has included the San Francisco AIDS Foundation (1994-1999) where he was Finance Committee Chair (1995-1999), South Bayshore Community Development Corporation (1998-1999), and the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee (2001-2003). In 2008, Mike was honored as the city's "sustainability leader" in the San Francisco Business Times' annual celebration of San Francisco's most admired CEOs.

Owners
Recology is the largest employee-owned company in the industry and has been honored on multiple occasions by the national ESOP Association for the quality of its ownership program and its positive impact on corporate performance. Founded in 1986, the Recology (then Norcal) ESOP was initially intended to fuel our drive toward excellent service, customer satisfaction, efficiency and innovation. It is a major reason why Recology is so consistently able to attract and retain the industry's best people at every level of the company.
